The rumor that Inrange is "in" at IBM may have some basis in fact
( Message 13851129 )
but it does not necessarily follow that McData is "out" as Gus has pointed out.
It should be noted though that Inrange has also been selling ESCON and
ESCON-FICON_DWDM directors to Big Blue shops.

If there is any displacement, it might have more to do with politics than technology.
The reason could simply be "We hate EMC along with all their kith and kin." <G>

IBM's new GM of Storage Subsystems Division Linda Sanford has a white-hat black-hat
PR campaign going with EMC. Follow up from the CPQ/IBM desperation act:

IBM Blasts EMC on Standards -

IBM Re-focuses SAN Strategy -

No doubt such froth stirs the thirst for rumors and speculation.

I'm afraid that there was no reason given. The statement was made in response to a question about IBM's plans with regard to Directors. As Gus pointed out, the McData relationship with IBM is fairly comprehensive so while it might be possible that one McData product might be replaced it is doubtful that IBM is going to sever their relationship with McData all together. I apologize for the poor phrasing on my part as I never meant to imply that. Gus and I have had some discussions on the Fibre Channel Director market thus my post was specifically addressed to him.
