I am only joking about him being a Penn State linebacker someday, but who knows - Jake is very strong and physical already. My wife Jan and I met at Penn State in 1964 and married the same year. We are both alums and have had season tickets for football since 1984. 2000 Paterno football is looking awful, and I'm not talking about the win-loss record. If Penn State does not suspend quarterback Rashard Casey before the season starts, this will be a terrible PR disaster that will greatly hurt the wonderful image the school has had for many years. For those of you who don't know, and might be interested, Casey has been charged with assault for beating an off duty New Jersey cop unconscious (with the help of a friend) earlier this summer. Unfortunately, the grand jury will not hear the case until October, and will provide no help (information) to Penn State so they can conduct their own invitation. From the what I have read, it looks like the kid may have done something pretty serious. Even worse are the racial issues - two black guys beat up a white cop because he is with a with black female. Penn State opens the season against Southern Cal in the Kick-off Classic in late August on a week end with only a couple of games. The incident took place just a couple of miles from Giants Stadium, where the game will take place. Put that together with the New York press, and Penn State's (and Joe Paterno's) squeeky clean reputation - this has the potential to be very ugly. I hate to see Rashard treated unfairly ... but if he is going to play, there is a lot of explaining to do ... by the player, by Paterno and by Penn State. Ken Wilson
