DS...

I've been through this TA kind of thing a thousand times in my head. It is very problematic.

Look, the TA story is basically claimed to be a way to reveal what is going on behind the scenes. If you look at the charts before the ERICY thing, it was obvious something was going on...and it was. However, chart patterns have shown "something" going on in many stocks I have followed...only to be head fakes. So in a way, TA can be said to be a good predictor of future events, except when isn't. I'm not trying to be cute here, but just trying to sort all this out. IF we could analyze these moves BEFORE hand and come up with a record of prediction, then it might convince people like you and me.

After looking at LG's charts it is clear to me that he has a handle on price movement...while the rest of us were blindly following the long term thing. Yeah, yeah, I know about the little old lady who bought Coke and never sold...but I for one NEVER want to go through what we did with QCOM this year again...and I want to figure out ways that will warn me ahead of time.

Keeping emotions in check is a clear winner.
Chart patterns probably fit in there also.

Did the charts predict Spinco? No.
What if QCOM busted through $74 a couple days ago...and is sitting on $80 today. Would the charts THEN predicted Spinco? YES.

Not always clear.

RE:I just don't follow your reasoning that TA predicted Spinco.

I don't remember saying that exactly. TA basically shows the sentiment of investors at any given time. Over the weekend, I happened to look at QCOM and it appeared that sentiment was turning positive. That's how I play the market. Some times I make money ( e.g. QCOM and CDO ), some times I lose ( e.g. PUMA ). I'm just trying to score as much above .500 as I can. Also, I find TA more interesting than FA. Good luck with whatever you do.
