Neo, He didn't have a lot of charisma, which seems to be the buzz word for success today, and one thing that hurt him, was the Republican Party in the South, and Southwest, was just beginning to grow, and was a bit weak in the face of decades of "good ole boy" Democratic rule. I was a Republican poll watcher in '64, and sometimes felt in danger of lynching. Especially, in the rural boxes where there were big landowners that had share croppers, that they used as slaves, and told them how to vote, or else. Those poor people, well knew what "or else" meant. At least, those immoral days are over.
