Slacker, I agree (today, anyway) with what you say wrt to Royalty plan and INTC as a King.

I hope someone changes my mind, though Spinco being a King is not at all bad.

In fact, QCOM may have consciously preserved its Gorilla status by spawning a King for its value chain.

Slacker given your track record I completely agree with you.I have been trying to read all the posts on this thread and qcoms buying and Nazi thread and here is what I think.

Having listened to the CC on 3q earnings the one thing that stood out was the shortfall of asics down the line due to transition to 1X and setbacks in the form of delays or cancellation in implementation of cdma2000 in favour of WCDMA in certain regions.

IJ has also mentioned on a number of occasions that the speed of implementation of any flavor of cdma is what he is most concerned about. Before yesterdays announcement we were stuck in a face off and who will give in first.Carriers can not proceed with buying of 3g infra when you have so many disputes that can put things on hold indefinitely in case of lawsuits.

What yesterday does for qcom is it allows spinco to join a patent pool in wcdma and speed up the deployment and production. In the mean time qcom will pursue legal avenues against those wcdma participants who have not licensed from qcom and effectively cut them off at their knees while its own spin off can proceed with the manufacturing of wcdma.

Who wins in wcdma and if it does produce a gorilla is another matter and too early to call.
