Digging the hole deeper?

By charging for a repair of a self install, only those who are confident that they will self-install correctly will chose that option.

Well now, that gets rid of Bell's best idea. Glad to see you agree that self install is weak. It also has hidden costs that not only will come to the MSO, but also will tarnish the fragile image of @Home.

You show a gross non-comprehension of the issues. To have confidence means to be techie or experienced with computers and networks or even CATV. The basic premise going back to Malone was couch potato theory. Most people don't have a clue about these things. I'm experienced with them and I found dealing with my problems and those of others very difficult to solve. It's so easy to just paint it away, but this neglects the de facto condition of the 20 year old CATV infrastructure. You need only go and talk to any Att Cable Service tech and they'll bring you up to speed, toot sweet.

Otherwise, the sub can wait for a truck roll and the traditional install.

The prospect either has the risky expensive proposition of self install or they have the option to wait. Please tell me what the majority will do? Pay the $100 for the kit? ATHM already did an analysis of the penetration of this strategy and they found a poor yield. It was for this reason that they have been reluctant about engaging a kit strategy. Not only was the expected yield low, but also there is all kinds of bad press potential. Consider releasing kits in Portland. The people there are looking for any excuse to attack any failure. If you make them wait, what do you lose, all that cable BB market to all those competitors? You aren't thinking beyond your short term greed.
