i hate guessing and predicting. it always makes me look bad. i much prefer coming in afterwards and saying, "yep, that's just what i thought".

part of me wants to say COMS has to run 5-10 points. but then i see many people wondering about 500 million shares of PALM being added to the float and the possibility of new holders of PALM selling.

ultimately, i believe that PALM needs to be untethered from COMS to excel, and that's what it will do. but the prospects of what happens tomorrow is a bit much for my poor brain.

besides, my strategy all along has been to hold tight and don't let go, which means i don't need to focus on what happens next.

just give me my darn PALM already!!

:)

Poll Prize:

I am announcing that I will award the winner of the "guess the COMS, PALM, and COMSV close tomorrow" contest winner 100 shares of Bre-X. In case anybody is unaware of Bre-X's potential, they are a dynamic gold company - with extensive overseas' gold assets!

Without further ado (miklosh - I hope you are keeping track of the results), here are my selections:

coms: $84 1/8
palm: $46
comsv: $16

Let the games begin. And may the best coms long win!

Miklosh:

How are you going to judge and declare a winner with three separate estimates involved? As a numbers guy, let me suggest a purely objective mathematical criterion - the Root Mean Square (RMS) deviation from the actual closing prices. It's calculated as follows:

(1) Subtract the estimate for COMS from the actual closing price. The answer will be positive, negative, or zero.

(2) Square the result from (1). This gets rid of the negatives so they're on the same basis as the positives magnitude wise.

(3) Repeat (1) and (2) for PALM and COMSV.

(4) Add the three results, divide by three, and take the square root. This gives the combined RMS deviation of the three estimates from the actual closing prices.

Using such an objective criterion will eliminate endless bickering about who won, which IMO will inevitably occur because we'll all have nothing to do.

I also suggest we have three sub class winners for the three estimates.

I'll volunteer to do a small spreadsheet to calculate the results if you like.

All in fun!

David T.

Miklosh - re the poll. You didn't say (er, write down) *when* we had to submit our numbers. Mine will be posted at 4:01PM ET today.

Really OT - Mr. Mark, what about SYMC buying AXNT?

Regards,
Harry
