I have never minded a military budget that is actually spent on things that make sense, for example- personnel.

I don't mind that either, as long as the personnel involved are the ones actually serving. A staggering sum is paid out annually in "consultancies" and lobbying positions that are little more than overpaid sinecures for the dinosaurs of the old guard. And the level of waste is, of course, staggering. I am quite sure that with effort the total amount involved could be substantially reduced with no negative impact on actual defense capability.

Anarchists these days are a bizarre breed. I talked to a few not long ago; pleasant young folks on a do-good mission. They were convinced that anarchism and socialism were somehow compatible, indeed almost identical, and resisted all efforts (my efforts were, I confess, not very energetic) to explain the rather fundamental difference. They were of the sort that demonstrates against globalization: earnest, well-meaning, and utterly clueless. Weird.
