Jimmyjohn,

Thanks for pointing out that playback of Radio Wall Street's interview of Jacobs. This is so important in my mind that I transcribed the section you mentioned. It speaks to the issue of whether or not we believe the press, whether fed by competitors or not, or whether we believe Jacobs. My money's on da man. Literally.

Beginning at 25:30, Irwin Jacobs speaking:

"There was a report that said that a minister in a meeting with the MII, the Ministry of Information and Industry, that there was a demand that Qualcomm provide details of how to manufacture the chips, and that I had turned that down, and therefore that caused everything to break up.

"That did not happen. I don't know where that story came from but it's certainly incorrect.

"There was a meeting. The meeting was very social. We did indicate we would support technology, provide technology support, that our manufacturers had the right to go ahead and design and manufacture their own chips if they chose to do so although most did buy their chips from us. But in any event, there was no demand and no rejection of demand by myself.

"So, the royalty-level issue had been taken care of in this framework agreement [mentioned earlier by Jacobs]. We are waiting for a list of manufacturers that the Chinese government will allow to sign license agreements.

"But the issue that had been reported as far as I can tell --well, I know. I was there -- isn't true. I don't quite know the origin of the story."

(Ends 26:50)
