Furukawa May Sell Up to 50 Mln JDS Uniphase Shares, CNBC Says
By Steve McPherson

Tokyo, July 27 (Bloomberg) -- Furukawa Electric Co. may sell up to 50 million of its 144 million shares of JDS Uniphase Corp. in the next day or two, CNBC's David Faber said on the network's Faber report. Faber cited unnamed sources and said officials at JDS Uniphase and Furukawa Electric wouldn't comment on a possible sale. The addition of JDS Uniphase into the Standard & Poor's S&P 500 Index has pushed up shares of the company, and Furukawa may sell part of its stake to take advantage of the gain, Faber said.

San Jose, California-based JDS Uniphase, the No. 1 maker of parts used in fiber-optic equipment, yesterday said it lost $418.8 million in the fiscal fourth quarter because of expenses for 10 acquisitions it made in the past year.
