TB, You must be thinking of the wrong movie. "They Were Expendable" ended with John Wayne, Robert Montgomery, Marshall Thompson, and another guy, flying off into the sky, on the way home. ~H~

PT boats were an almost total waste of men and material.
Spend a little time leafing through Morrison's US Naval Operations and see if you can find any evidence of naval effectiveness. The attack on the cruiser in Expendable was fiction, like much of the book and movie.
