We need to work on achieving those preconditions so that we _can_ work together because it's vital. Imperialism is dead, and your right, people are in many regions are reverting back to childlike states of bickering. Even in America, you have a great amount of this sepratist view resurfacing. However, if we are to survive, I think we must somehow work this out. We cannot unify the world if we cannot unify ourselves. One of the things that has struck me as very disappointing is the amount of namecalling and disrespect for each other even between highly intelligent, probably highly educated, and probably fairly well off people on THIS BOARD. It's just not necessary to do this, regardless of how much you might disagree with someone, IMO. Liberals, Conservatives, Centrists, New-agers and old timers would all be well served to look outside their own viewpoints occasionally and study what the other side has to say. From Marx to Friedman's Free to Choose, there are a wealth of good and bad ideas from each. Marx was right, there is in fact an increasing division of class in capitalistic societies. This is an observable fact. However, probably the best way to remedy this is to reduce barriers to entry and open opportunity to people in a market oriented fashion. Some of the worst examples of democracy are political correctness and the sepratist movement. Although they revel in the fact that they are so different from each other, they are in fact very alike. They both WILL NOT LISTEN TO THE OTHER. This is their most predominant characteristic. What are your ideas for getting the people of the world out of savage discontent with one another? -Mark
