Re: "Intel's opinion is that Via violated their license for P6 bus when they introduced PC-133 interface. DDR is even more radical departure. I think the door is open for Intel to sue Ali/Acer when Intel's own chipsets are ready in 2001. In the meantime, Intel will probably look the other way."

Looking the other way could create a legal problem. It could be construed as tacit approval.

Joe - Re: "Intel's opinion is that Via violated their license for P6 bus when they introduced PC-133 interface. DDR is even more radical departure. Intel and VIA signed a licensing agreement 2 years ago - and after only a few months, VIA violated the terms of the agreement and Intel sued.

That this is the case was made clear by VIA settling out of court with Intel and agreeing to PAY INTEL A LUMP SUM PENALTY and ON-GOING ROYALTIES on the production of VIA chips that use Intel's Intellectual Property.

Intel's licensing agreement with ACER is entirely separate. If you are privy to the details of that agreement, then you can make predictions about Intel's future actions.

If you are not privy to the details of Intel's agreement with Acer, you are just making wild-ass guesses.

Save your time - buy some more AMD while it's on sale !
