This is fascinating history. Science continues to animate these historical puzzles. Socrates himself consulted the oracle with genuine reverence. One presumes he was somewhat familiar with what was taking place, but altered state prophecy was no less convincing, fascinating, and mysterious then, than it is today. Greek mythology was rich, consisting of the interplay of many Gods. How interesting it must have made their lives. We, on the other hand, have the psychic hot line: "Did you know your husband is seeing a younger woman? Well, he is. And he knows all about your affair..."
