Paul, RE: There is at least one "upside' to the time frame issue. Intel is working closely with ServerWorks - which is designing a SDRAM chip set for Foster - Willamette's Server cousin. Maybe Intel can license the memory controller core from that design and couple it with the guts of the i815E chip set and accelerate the process.

This, of course, is my own speculation.

This would parallel what I've been hearing about the last week or so, namely that P4/Willamette would eventually end up using not Rambus or DDR, but a third standard.
