Frank,

This old piece of sophistry has been around a long time. It assumes a stagnant world worth and can be made for any company with good earnings, even AMD. Add a few years onto the numbers and the same thing happens with AMD.
The question was not whether Intel would double every 18-24 onths forever, but rather what my "metric" was. The remarkable fact is that Intel has been one of the world's largest companies for a long time and STILL manages to achieve this kind of growth.

No sophistry. Add to this assumption an optimistic growth of the world economy of 5% per year, or subtract 5% from Intel's "growth rate" and you will get numbers very similar to what I said, with the key dates delayed by a few months. You can even add the inflation and the story doesn't change very much.
