I went to the show. Dylan played the same stuff he's been
playing. Did you see that Larry has 3 or 4 mandolins
and a violin on stage? I don't thing he used the violin
this tour but I could be wrong. I think he played on
Hurricane last tour though but again I ain't sure and
I'm not gonna check. Any how Dylan was a little tighter
than last year but some what less enthused, pretty much
what I expected. Last year they were fresh, 1 year and
a bunch of shows later it's hard to be as energenic.
It was raining the whole time but it never rained too
hard. Phil opened with 3 straight Jerry tunes with an
instrumental mixed in. It was more than I could stand.
He did a pretty good job singing on Foolish Heart and
it was played surprisingly well. It sounded rehearsed!
Forgot where the instrumental came, it sounded good but
the soloing wasn't anything special. Robben sang a funky
Tenesee Jed that didn't work for me. Everybody else seemed
to love it though. Once I heard the first few notes of
China Doll and knew Phil would be singing it was more
than I can handle so I left. They had his vocals turned
up way too loud. After Foolish Heart I really thought I
stay for his whole set but that changed pretty fast.
Robben ain't bad but he was playing too choppy for me
the way Jerry did at the end. From 72-91 Jerry solos just
flowed and flowed from 92 to the end it sounded more like
doodling to me. Robben was also doodling. Paul was playing
some good rhythm and a liked the solos he took. Phil also
sounded really good but not good enough to overcome his
singing IMO.
