DJ Advanced Micro Outlook-2: Sees 'Record' 3Q Sales
27 Jul 15:21

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) reiterated
its projections for the second half, saying it is on track to ship 3.6 million
PC processors and expects strong sales in flash memory products.

"Demand for AMD flash memory devices continues to exceed supply,' said AMD
vice president for external affairs, Benjamin M. Anixter. "We are ramping the
production capacity of our flash memory manufacturing joint venture, Fujitsu
AMD Semiconductor Ltd., as rapidly as possible."
In a press release Thursday, the company recapped remarks Anixter delivered
at a San Francisco semiconductor conference.

Despite the loss of revenue from its Communications Products Division, AMD
expects record sales for the third quarter, based on the demand for flash
memory and PC processor products.

A First Call/Thompson Financial survey of 18 analysts produced a mean
earnings estimate of $1.26 a share for the third quarter.

For the 1999 third quarter, AMD lost $105.6 million, or 72 cents a share, on
revenue of $662.2 million.

John,

I would assume that any earnings numbers that AMD gives out now include taxes. 1 billion dollars is about $5.70 per share. Also, it is risky for Ruiz to make such a statement. He must be very confident that they can achieve it. Their internal projections must be considerably over $1 billion.

Petz, $1B pre-tax, post-tax??

Well, I found 'Betriebsgewinn' in the article which translates to 'operating profit' as far as I understand. So I still believe it's a pre-tax prediction. He said the same stuff in the Q2 CC, I remember (see JC's transcriptish).

So, let's wait for $1B post-tax.
