Seems to me if you are short COMS, you have to buy PALM in order to pay the distribution of the PALM spinoff shares out of pocket. Seems to me also that COMS should trade near to where COMSV was trading at today. So if you shorted COMS at $70 for example, your profit/loss=$70-COMSV($14)+ PALM($)at the spinoff ratio. Would be easier to just short COMSV to avoid buying PALM to satisfy the distribution, but the results should be the same. COMSV to $10 to $12 and shorts still make 20% to 40% IMO because COMS is crap.
