Arete Outdoors Subsidiary Releases Outdoor Community Web Site
BOULDER, Colo., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Arete Industries, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: AREE - news) announced that subsidiary, Arete Outdoors, released its long awaited outdoor sports and adventure web site to the public today. The address of the site is www.AreteOutdoors.com.

``We are very excited to launch what we believe will be the premier outdoor adventure destination on the World Wide Web,'' said Mike Lowe, President of Arete Outdoors.

Tom Raabe, Arete Industries' Chairman and CEO stated, ``Our plan is to focus first on establishing a community of user/members with common interests in a wide range of self propelled, gravity based adrenaline sports and outdoor adventure opportunities. With this in mind, we have carefully designed and built this state of the art site using database driven, interactive 'community' technology.''

Mike Parsons, Arete Industries' CTO and manager of the website development project, stated, ``We will build content and drive membership around our products and positive visitor experiences. Outdoor sports enthusiasts, young and old, will visit our website to read the articles, product reviews and other content in a wide variety of subjects and activities.'' The Arete Outdoor development team consists of professional writers, designers, sports enthusiasts and includes a growing base of user-members. ``User-members will be free to participate in each category by sending comments to the mailroom for each subject, by uploading articles and product reviews and will soon be able to buy and sell their gear and meet like minded people through the classified ad section,'' added Parsons.

Lowe added, ``If the guests and members are interested in buying gear, they will be guided to our products or will choose among products made by others, but sold on our site. All products on the website will be reviewed and recommended by a pool of industry professionals and leading user-athletes, professional guides and outfitters, including the Lowe Brothers themselves.

``For those who really want an ultimate experience, like sea kayaking in Alaska, trekking through Incan ruins in Peru, or mountain biking in Costa Rica, they can click on the 'Adventure' button and go to one or more of our network of hand-picked adventure guides and outfitters. They can even be outfitted from the site with products recommended by our team of experts specifically for each trip. We are dedicated to providing the best, most complete experience for our members and guests,'' Lowe stated.

Larry Mortimer, director of Sales and Marketing for Arete Industries, stated, ``This state-of-the-art website reflects a natural evolution of e-commerce into many potential revenue streams from one location, including direct advertising, links revenue to selected products and services, adventure travel and direct product sales. These revenue streams come from sales to outdoor enthusiasts across numerous product categories and age groups, all driven by the community aspect of the website and by our reputation for innovation.''

Parsons added, ``The site launch marks the introduction of an aggressive content development and acquisition program driven by our chief editor and content manager, Pete Takeda and his Web development and administration team. Pete is an internationally known climber and alpinist and is an accomplished writer whose experience includes Senior Contributing Editor for Climbing Magazine and a free lance contributor for numerous other magazines and journals. Pete recently has published his book, 'Pete's Wicked Book' in which he reveals his gritty mountain experiences with a peculiar twist and style. Pete is known internationally within the upper echelon of climbers, mountaineers and adventurists. He will direct the organic expansion and renewal of the website content. Behind all this, the Lowe Brothers will be providing primary guidance and input as icons in the outdoor adventure world.''

Arete Outdoors will continue to enhance and improve the site. The company will add full e-commerce capabilities, as well as refine the functionality of many areas over the next few months. ``We are committed to the continuous improvement of the web site,'' continued Parsons. ``For Arete, the web site is a long-term strategy and we are continuing to develop relationships and contacts for products and services that will enhance the content of the site.''

As I was watching the Time of Sale and Level II yesterday of AREE, 7/28/00, After lunch there was a spike to .24 or .25 cents, cant remember exactly, but one or the other. And the sale was for like 25000 shares. The price shot up,, then back down. I figured it for a market order. Did see this and have an options?
