doug,

We need Jerry / or Ruiz to go on cnbc and make some reiteration of earnings.

Also some analysts pounding the table would be helpfull.

I suspect that AMD and Intel know a whole lot about each others plan and surprises are limited.

regards,

Kash

Doug,

What does it take to allow AMD to break with the SOX?

Earnings. Revenue growth. Unit growth. Growing market share.

Joe

Doug: RE: <font color=darkcyan>What does it take to allow AMD to break with the SOX?

AMD is in lockstep with SOX for most of the time.
Now If you look at the mayor events of the past year:

Let us start with AMD:SOX = 1.00:1.00

mid Nov'1999, Q3 CC: First Athlon Results. AMD:SOX --> 1.20:1.00
mid Jan'2000, Q4 CC: Blow out Quarter. AMD:SOX --> 1.35:1.00 (0.18 um Athlon coming)
mid Feb'2000, Willamette 1.5 GHz demo. AMD:SOX --> 1.00:1.00 (within 10 days the Q3/Q4 effects are gone!)
early Mar'2000, 1 Ghz arrives! AMD:SOX --> 1.30:1.00
late Mar'2000, AMD un-locked from the SOX. AMD:SOX --> 1.30:1.00 up and up to >2.00:1.00

The Institutes let AMD go free with the 1GHz Athlon and an another Blowout Quarter in sight.
The whole market goes down but AMD keeps rising and rising.

late Apr'2000, AMD locked again to the SOX. AMD:SOX --> 2.20:1.00
mid Jul'2000, Q2 CC. Blowout Q for IRS. AMD:SOX --> 2.00:1.00 (The positive effect (+4%) lasts only 5 days)
late Jul'2000, Now. AMD:SOX --> 1.90:1.00

Following this relation is crucial. The SOX may go done another 10% to 12% or so.
This would make the middle to lower 60's the ideal buy back price.
