The free coinage of silver was a way to increase the money supply, cause inflation, and therefore allow borrowers to pay back loans with devalued currency. Thus, lenders would suffer from the erosion in buying power, as would those who had made long term contracts.......

They often use regulation as a means of alleviating competition and coordinating production and pricing, and keeping new entrants out of the field, and thus as an instrument of cartelization..........
