Steven, FDR gave Stalin carte blanche at Yalta. It was the weakest moment of his tenure in the White House, and helped to cause the ensuing cold war. Had the American Armed Forces followed Patton's exhortation, it never would have happened. You probably already know the quote, but at the victory celebration, after the fall of Berlin, He supposedly said, "We should whip those Russians' asses while we have the army assembled to do so."
