Semiconductor shares are currently in a very speculative selloff.

* There is a claim that PC growth is slowing based on >backward< measurements-when instead we are going into the normally stronger second half. If semis were priced firmly during the weak first half, what about the second?

* There is a claim that cell phone growth is slowing, but instead new models are coming out which require more chips! Read Nokia's release. There are shortages of chips which are hurting other companies.

* The demand from settop boxes is largely ignored, though companies like Scientific-Atlanta and Motorola are shipping millions, and the number is increasing. Read the SFA and MOT releases.

* The demand from handheld devices is on the rise, with Palm, Handspring, and the new Compaq unit.
