Yes, MRVC consolidates the earnings of subs if they own 50% or more.

They exited their switching business in Q4. That was over 75% of their revenue in 1999. Then they acquired 6 companies so far this year, with closings at different points in each quarter. They just now closed on two of the pieces of Luminent. Who knows how much of each is in what?

So who can even do an adequate comparison of earnings? Not me. It's an apples (switches) and oranges (optical components) comparison anyway.

They stated in the CC that they took out a bank loan to finance the recent acquisition, but will pay it off within two months when other investments (T-bills) come due. So even that part of the statements are convoluted.

You are right, IMO that the street should no longer consider them an operating company.
