This is what I'm talking about....

"In an interview with Dow Jones, Harmon said that currently its technology that speeds up dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips costs 50% higher than SDRAM. The price difference will come down 15% to 20% by late next year and by that time "Rambus will be much more competitive" and will be more widely used, he said."

Rambus is only about 50% more than sdram yet samsung and company are charging 2-2.5 times the cost of sdram for it.
As long as the intel 820, 840 and willie can only use rdram and their is very limited competition, samsung and company can get away with hugh mark ups on their rdram.

They can continue to do this until real competition develops. Either in the form of other rdram suppliers or intel supporting a verity of drams. Ironically, intel supporting other drams may give rambus more critical mass as competition forces suppliers of rdram to lower prices to grow the rambus market in which they have a distinct advantage and want to exploit.
