Mike

Not very Tornadoish which fits in with the lack of a physical increase in the Guide equipped TV population in the retail outlets but I think they are on track to reach the 5 million mark in the time frame Henry stated in the 3rd Qtr of 99.

I am very interested in the EPG add revenue and am looking for 4.5 million or better. This would represent a 150% increase over last qtr which is very Tornadoish and is not inconcievable since they had a 125% increase last qtr. Since we are dealing with relatively small numbers I like to see an increasing growth rate until the numbers get bigger.

this last quarter is traditionally slow for tv sales.

the bulk of the sales are this and next quarter.

i used to have a link that quantified tv sales...cannot find it...perhaps someone else could post it.

Mike,

Adding 500,000 EPGs in televisions last quarter is great, but the same thing was done the previous quarter. That means a smaller percentage of the previously installed base was added in Q2 than in Q1.

There is seasonality in the retail TV business. I recall that Q4 is the strongest. Q1 is moderate I believe with Q2 & Q3 being weaker. I had the seasonality breakdown at one time but lost it. Twice runs the CEMA numbers weekly:
twice.com

Another factor to consider is that the first half numbers do not include the new GuidePlus models (19" & 20" TVs) that I first saw on the retail shelves 3-4 weeks back. Thomson has committed to 30MM units over the next 10 years in the US market. They are also preparing to launch in the European market.

Regards
Stew
