AMD Interview (video) by ON24 now available at biz.yahoo.com. "Advanced Micro Devices Vice President: AMD on Par with Intel" Friday July 28, 2:23 am Eastern Time Talking head video... interesting only when it blurs. Notes -- Nothing really exciting or new. (1) Process technology and facilities now on par with Intel. 2 Fabs capable of meeting market share goal of 30%. (2) Talked about FASL, 100% flash bit growth next 3-5 years, very aggressive capital expansion program, capacity "essentially spoken for until end of 2001." 35% cell phones and no more than 20% in other flash markets - want to stay diversified but all flash markets growing fast. (3) New MPU area: workstations & server. Athlon expanded market to performance (previous value only). Will have capability by the end of this year with chipsets and Mustang. Workstation and low-end servers and then grow from there. Strategy for these new markets? Have to deliver whole solution: chipset, software, processor, motherboard. (4) Summer slowdown? Q2 is seasonally worst qtr, Q3 recovery, Q4 best. We expect record unit sales in Q3 (approach 7M) and double Athlon units (3.6M). Q4 double Athlons again (7.2M) and 7M (?) total (checked twice and I guess he meant 9M since he said this would again be a record and consistent with previous guidance). (5) Semis hit recently. AMD has lowest valuation (P/E) on the market. We have invested capital and R&D to be prepared for MPU market -- there is room for two. Leader in flash in the world.
