And having the confidence to admit that you use highlighters and page points in the same book is truly admirable. :) I've never thought of interpretations of the manuals as being literal or more the result of reading in between the lines. Recognition of those options makes perfect sense now that you mention it. My guess is that I will probably always be more literal, ironically, for the same reason that you might prefer to read between the lines. Being steeped in the ways of technology, you inherantly fully appreciate the difference between reading in between the lines and misunderstanding the lines. You understand when Moore is contradictory even in the most subtle nuances. And you appreciate those nuances of real gorilla and royalty games being played in intensely competitive areans. I, on the other hand, know a little bit about carpet and maybe a little bit more about music. Therefore, the manuals offer me a basic guideline to a world of technology that is as foreign to me as it might be a comfy home for you. In most cases, the cases I want to avoid, the non-technologist who starts reading in between the lines will become the non-technologist who gradually veers more and more away from the tenets of Gorilla Gaming into less safe waters. Though I don't have the innate understanding of this stuff that you do, I think I was able to appreciate the bullets you brought to light. Thank you for them! They offer a fresh perspective (at least for me) and I don't have any reason to disagree with them. (By the way, I hope you noticed that our previous exchanges on this subject found us in primary agreement too.) One question, though, about one of those bullets: It is possible to fall off the path at any point in the technology adoption lifecycle – including inside the tornado after being designated the leader Are you saying that something other than a discontinuous innovation can cause a gorilla to no longer be the gorilla? I found the comment about Moore getting a new copy editor especially intriguing. I've had the same discussion with one of our threadmates who is as quick to point out Moore's contradictions not only within each book but also between various books. I hope he uses the copy editor in context of all the books when new books are written and earlier books are revised. --Mike Buckley
