Kent, the following is mightylakers' take on Yozan, from RB Club Board today. It appears that no WCDMA chip is being produced:

VH, about yozan.

It looks like to me that its main product right now is that mother machine thing, which is a development package for whoever wishing to develop some applications on top of WCDMA, the package can simulate the WCDMA environment in your Lab.

Another product is called WCDMA-EP(embedded phone), which I think is very similar to the CDMA modules we see in Qualcomm. Of course they are not exactly the same thing since I think EP also has the voice ability. But this EP thing may still being developed. And notice that it is for the rollout next year, also considering the fact that its size still need to be trimed down, tells you that no chips are available now.

From Yozan's web page, it says that through "prototype contracts on matched filters and RAKE combining circuit from DaCoMo" the IC is developed. Also look at the diagram it presents. My conclusion it is a RF play at best. The IC it talks about is not the ASIC we know of, or SoC in our IDCC friends' term.

One of the slides indicates that they will be shipping WCDMA chips in second half of 2000. If thats the case then they better get a license agreement with Q quick.
Although I doubt they will have a chip ready this year, I say I hope they do because as soon as they ship the first one Q is due a royalty payment.
