It has been said that Intel would not have to pay Rambus royalty fees for using their RDRAMS that this would be a freebe to them.

I don't think that's correct. I believe it's been said that their royalty rate is very low, but >0%.

All of this is pure scuttlebut. Perhaps, the best way to clear up some of these issues is to email Rambus IR for clarification:

1) Is there a penalty built into the RAMBUS_INTEL contract
for the use of DDR in their chipset?

2) Is Intel barred from using DDR in their chipsets by their contract with INTEL.

3) Under what conditions does Intel have to pay Rambus royalties?

4) Does the contract call for RAMBUS to pay Intel royalties on the excess over 2%?

I suspect that all of this is BS but why not get it from IR?
