lml,

It occurs to me that if the RBOCs make FTTH a part of their standard fare, and some of them will, then it would follow that those optical fibers to the neighborhood and to the home, at some point, would become fair game for unbundled network element (UNE) treatment, no? Do you or anyone else here see some form of strategy using structurally separated subsidiaries on the part of the ILECs as a means to circumvent this?

"Unlike the other RBOCs, it appears that BLS intends to compete head-to-head with the MSOs early on with their present foray into DBS service in combo with their FTTH strategy."

"Understandable as it may seem, perhaps "MikeM From BLS Territory" might be able to shed some focused light on why BLS is particularly sensitive to this issue."

lml- Sorry. I don't know what is going on here. I'm guessing they are worried about something popping up in the future. Certainly nothing to worry about today, and my guess is nothing to worry about in the future. It's beneficial for a content provider to get their content distributed everywhere possible. So I doubt it's anything for a telco to be concerned about when they enter the TV game.

BTW, GTE is my incumbent telco that did a HFC overbuild(of which they are trying to sell now). -MikeM(From Florida)
