Well it becomes a question of RAM. The fastest Alpha with 128MB of RAM will get outrendered by a 486 with 1GB on the types of things I play with. RAM is one of the gating factors. Is Itanium going to use SDRAM? I seem to recall it was. This should allow the costs to be kept down for these types of machines. In fact, Itanium by nature of it's memory interface may make more sense for rendering than a Willamette will (with it's RAMBUS crap... and no I don't like RDRAM).
