>> Maybe we still have some more work to do, shaking out the weak hands

Gee, Jake, the way you bought in at 70 and bounced out at 68 a few days later, I thought you were one of them.

How would you define strong hands?

<<In order to get to a much higher price by 2003, you have to assume either a much higher forward PE, or a much higher EPS. Either, IMO, is unrealistic.>>

Sounds like the cookie-cutter school of PE assignment. What is the environment for QCOM at this future time? Is QCOM delivering multi-mode ASICs for a worldwide CDMA deployment? Has Euroland caved and moved to a GSM/CDMA2000 conversion? What is the status of SpinCo? Tell me about HDR and how broadband is delivered to the average business traveler's notebook? Is LWIN in St. Louis, because there's one residential landline cancellation? How did the 1X deployment go? AWE holding up very well selling CDPD service against PCS and Verizon? How many CDMA connections do you have, three, four? Is an auto without CDMA access like a house without A/C?

Try answering the above in QCOM's favor by 2002, a very realistic possibility based on products firmly in the realm of delivery by then. 150? Haven't we ALREADY seen 150?

This stock is about extremes because the economic opportunity they have within reach is simply enormous. It is not a clear path and it is a very complex and difficult to understand business. If the weather clears up at any time in the near future, we will see much higher prices. Much higher prices. If not, we may well move along a cookie-cutter path, but that will be rewarding from these levels too.

Well, I'm not sure we can discount manias from happening EVER again in our lifetimes. I think that is bit of a stretch. If QCOM does begin to dominate wireless space as Cisco has the internet, then what do you say of a 100 PE then? Do you think Cisco is going to tread water here until the PE catches up (down) with the growth rate...or Cisco will crash to do so? I dunno Jake, the market has changed so much over the past 10 years. I think once this shake out is over...I'd say by the winter, we should resume our secular bull run that will give premium companies premium prices.

How about that?
