Doug Re...<<<<<Thread, what do we make of boxed Durons showing up in Japan?<<<<<<

Doug, as i posted earlier today, GTW has 1ghz T-birds in stock and is selling them for immediate build and delivery. These are copper T-birds. Durons should be just around the corner.

Doug,

RE: Boxed Durons in Japan

It might just be a neutral indicator. For AMD's previous CPU launches, wasn't it pretty standard for the boxed versions to arrive 2 to 4 weeks after the OEM tray versions were available? Sooner if their output was good. Later if they had yield problems.

This could certainly mean that tray Durons have been available to every major OEM for a considerable time now. They should have had plenty of time to assemble boxes for the Back-to-School market if they had access to motherboards when they received their Durons.

Speaking of the B2S market, my local Costco is practically stuffed wall to wall with Compaq and HP Athlons - 750s, 850s, and 1Gs. Limited PIIIs, but numerous e-Machine, Compaq, and HP Celerons. I fear that the Durons will be lucky to even catch the tail end of the B2S sales period. This may make it tough to sell the 3.6M units promised for this qtr.

Comment: My ouija board says non-American sales are at least as important to AMD as American sales, and the percentageof non-American AMD sales is likely increase going forward...It also told me that the CSCO CEO who has been skeptical of Japan for the past 5 years has just this week turned positive...No small endorsement about international potential!!!
