I know, its kind of like a Hardy Boys thing. I have a book called "The Turn of the Tide" by Jennings Wise. On the first free endpaper it says, "Property of Capt. Thomas Cornell, Commander of Co. A, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. The book is an account of the second battle of the Marne and the American operations at Cantigny and Chateau Thierry in WWI. Throughout the book there is marginalia correcting the author on minor points, and in a couple of instances, offering a much different account. Its neat to have notes from a guy who was actually there!
