Is anyone familiar with the "chop-chop" protocol...

...that SanDisk uses to create 8MB flash cards from the 256Mbit flash chips they manufacture. My understanding is that 8 MB cards are falling out of favor as they are an inefficient use of fab capacity at present.

Is it possible to "double chop" a 256 Mbit chip into 4 equal 64 Mbit pieces? What happens to the specialty MLC section that addresses the flash memory? How do they accomplish this without disrupting the D2 process?
