What you say is true for NT or W2000, but many people do not set up any security on network shares if they are using W95/98. In either case, the Username is one of the things that Netbios gives up freely when queried, according to what I saw on the GRC site. I tested before and after ZoneAlarm. ZoneAlarm hides everything.

However, apparently newer cable modems are more intelligent about filtering Netbios traffic and don't allow display of as much info to your neighbors as the old ones did. Even so, a firewall is still needed.
