Vman, So, the broadcast can be seen by those in the eastern half of US, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and all of South America. Greenland too. Add the Caribbean, Central America, Madagascar, Iceland, and even the Falklands. Does it mean we do not have Asian partners? We have to get European partners? Ramsey, I have checked QCOM's new releases for the last two years. Never a satellite feed ever. Brian H.

Intelsat K was a special purchase bird from Satcom (GE Americom)in the early 90's to supplement Intelsat growing Ku services at the time. It is in fact a pure Ku band bird, located I think at 21.5 W (could be 27 W). Coverage is East coast to Europe on mainly spot beams. Semi-hemi beam I suppose is possible, but would require a powerful transponder or large E/S. Even for a large area spot, it takes a lot of power, such as the Deathstar DSS to work on the small dishes. It is an oddball bird in their fleet, as the fleet consist of series 5 (think there is one left in declined orbit), 6, 7, 8 and 9 multi platformed birds of C and Ku transponders. I don't believe Intelsat even talks about it on it's website or shows a footprint of it. Probably a feed to European major markets, as the SBS6 bird is a domestic bird. For the moment, it still cheaper to rent occassional feed via satellite for TV than say fiber. Anytime you see a CEO interview from headquarters area, it an occasional feed. When companies want to get out a major announcement on a wide basis, it not uncommon for them to secure 1/2 hr of time to do so. Apple under Jobs does it alot and it is not normally decoded, but instead broadcasted in the clear.
