To Al: Further to my prior missives concerning inflation is or is not consider these words from this banking analyst:
``The banking industry generally speaking is not enjoying robust top-line growth,'' Diane Glossman, an analyst at UBS Warburg, said. ``In order to be able to invest heavily in the investment bank, which they've said over and over they still plan on doing, and on Internet applications ... everybody is having to make choices. This is a re-prioritization.''

Her remarks were prompted in response to B of A's latest round of layoffs. What is indicated here is that human labor is being replaced by automation (that spells TECHNOLOGY for those that need the translation). Technology is the future of America and after us the world. These trends bode well for technology and mitigate against inflation as the individual employee becomes more and more efficient. Companies are looking to optimize revs. per employee. INTC,MSFT,ORCL,RMBS,RFMD,JDSU et al. are leading the way to this productivity Nirvana. Hang in there to the extent your self imposed margin limits will permit. JFD

RE:"We have had 4 or 5 interest rate hikes and the economy is still humming along and there is no significant if any inflation to be found. Contractors margins? My carpenters over the last three years haven't changed there prices more than 3% if at all. You Jim must be some kind of victim."

Well, where you live things must be different. I recall you live in Maine and drive over to New Hampshire to save on taxes. Buy your gasoline at BJs wholesale...
Remember, that same $.99 lettuce was $.49 last December. <G>
Yes, I feel inflationvictim everytime I check real estate prices, go to the supermarket or get a tax hike...
Must be a different world in the backwoods of Maine.

Jim

Come on down here to FL and I'll show you some inflation.

I believe you correct about the economy not slowing down which is why AG will have to hike again.

Another example of how the legal system is abused.....utterly pathetic. I sometimes wonder why anyone wants to undertake the risk of starting a new busines in this country with people like Hirsh.

latimes.com

Excerpt:

A former professor described Hirsh as a "nice person who seemed sincere." Several former classmates, who requested anonymity, fearing that they might be sued, remembered Hirsh as a class pariah who reveled in being a contrarian.
"He was feisty and always ready to challenge the professors," said one New York attorney. "He was brazen . . . that his goal was to get a law degree to make money."

The guy doesn't sound too bright:

In August 1997, Hirsh sued Massachusetts Life Insurance Co., claiming that two years earlier the insurer's agents had advised him to buy a life insurance policy, even though he wanted to purchase Microsoft stock.

--Economy Surged In 2nd Quarter--

Yes I've noticed things have really picked up for panhandlers. At least there are a lot more of them near the freeway on-ramps.
