Detailed info on the MS X-Box.

This is a lot of system. It will come equipped with cable modem capability as standard.
Some interesting block diagrams in the article.

In addition to providing a push to the current business model, it
seems likely that the X-Box will also have a considerable affect
on game systems themselves. Microsoft believes that network
distribution is going to take off in the near future, and has made
the decision to equip the X-Box with a HDD and a 100-Mbit/s
Ethernet board as standard equipment (Fig 2, Fig 3). The
adoption of the HDD, which jacks-up the component cost
considerably, is a clear sign that Microsoft believes that the real
money is in network services.

Why MS chose DDR SDRAM.

With both main memory and frame buffer accessed in the same
DRAM, the X-Box will have to offer a data transfer rate that is
high enough. This is why Microsoft has tapped double-data rate
(DDR) mode synchronous DRAM, running at 200MHz, for the
X-Box. This attains a data transfer rate of up to 6.4 Gbytes/s
about double that of the PS2 - with a two-channel Direct
Rambus DRAM for main memory.

Blake,

The Bus "owns" SDRAM and DDR too.

The DRAM industry will be fascinated to hear this.
