Some insiders are saying that Qcom will link up with ADSX to distribute the positioning identification chip Digital Angel. Sullivan the head of adsx has been in several tralks with Qcom recently from sources close to both companies I have heard. The chip likely will be used in wireless communication systems to gain position identification information. This application along with personal location is a huge untapped market.

Applied Digital Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSX chart, msgs) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Digital Angel.net Inc., has signed a research agreement with Princeton University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

The expanded research team will assist in the development of Digital Angel(TM), a miniature digital transceiver that could be used for a variety of purposes, such as monitoring the medical conditions of at-risk patients, commodity supply chain management, food safety, preventing the unauthorized use of firearms, providing a tamper-proof means of identification for enhanced e-commerce security, locating lost or missing individuals or pets, and tracking the location of valuable property. It is anticipated that the tiny device - which is intended to be bonded closely to the body or implanted just under the skin - will be able to send and receive data and that it will be tracked by GPS (Global Positioning System) technology.

PacBell is definitely GSM in San Diego. I've talked to GTE folks and none of them seem to know which way it's going to go. They're still selling CDMA phones for now. Remember that GTE has both CDMA and AMPS equipment just like Airtouch, so I suppose if ATT wanted to they could just leave things the way they are and force the out of town ATT customers to use analog roaming while in San Diego. Certainly not ideal for them, but give ATT some time to figure things out.LOL
Who knows, given enough time some ATT folks may even see the light.

In a Business Week article about Matsushita there is a photograph of a Panasonic mobile phone/Net device with W-CDMA stamped into the case. Is this for real or is it some sort of mocked-up device? The article itself doesn't have anything to say about the CDMA wars.
