WorldGate Challenges Gemstar/TV Guide

WorldGate, backed by a posse of powerful MSOs, took the wraps off plans to introduce its own electronic programming guide. TVGateway promises to provide competition to the newly formed EPG behemoth Gemstar/TV Guide.
Comcast, Charter, Cox and Adelphia will all chip into the joint venture that will create an option to Gemstar’s iron grip on the segment that’s a cornerstone to digital and interactive offerings. WorldGate hopes to avoid infringing on Gemstar’s technological territory by delivering a headend- based product through its Channel HyperLinking and Ultra- Thin Client technologies. While Gemstar has a set- top- centric model, its executives already issued warnings that it will scrutinize the newcomer.
In addition to the EPG, the MSOs announced plans to roll out WorldGate’s flagship Internet on EveryTV service to a predetermined, but unannounced, number of households. They will also invest $24.5 mil. in WorldGate and earn warrants for the distribution of WorldGate services beyond the initial commitments. The move has already been successful for WorldGate on Wall Street. The two-week- long buzz pumped up its shares from $19.75 on 7/13 – the day after Gemstar completed its acquisition of TV Guide – to $30.06 in early trading. The 52% jump powered the company’s market value to $646 mil.

typing with difficulty after an ACL reconstruction

LOL
ACL = anterior cruciate ligament; when torn, usually results in a season-ending knee injury, and requires
reconstruction.

Stan,
Maybe some better medical advice would be to tell him to type with his HANDS! (I generally keep the legs out of it when I'm here...) :-)
