Lewinsky-Dan - Re: "The whole point of that post was that although AMD may not have SMP available for a while"

Sorry, Blow Hard - you said AMD was going to have 760 SMP chip sets IMMINENTLY - and that was one month ago!

Re: it will be years before AMD dents the server market... They've dented it now. I know, because I've personally implemented a number of AMD servers. And I know I'm not the only one.

But I agree with you that dent is a good way to characterize their penetration into that market so far.

This is the reason that I'm as excited about the SiS chipset as the imminent AMD760 multiprocessor release. The SiS chipset has onboard video and is perfect for building 1U and 2U form factor servers. This is the fastest growing part of the server market. It's also quite cost conscious because the servers are usually ordered by the dozen or hundred.

And the organizations ordering these truckloads of servers are all well aware that Intel has just become their direct competitor. I don't see any way AMD can avoid instantly gaining a large market share in this sector as soon as the 1U and 2U form factor systems are available.

How many Fords are in Toyota's corporate fleet?

Dan
