Yes, Dodger, the thread was informed that the practice predates biblical history (see post 102). Regardless of the ethnicity or the culture of the first practitioners, or the millennium when it started, someone somewhere had to go first. I was just wondering how such a practice might get started. To me, it doesn't seem to be an action that would come naturally and readily to mind as something cool to do. Once a culture had some experience with it, they might easily create a rationale to institutionalize the practice. But I can't help but wonder about the guy who went first and how that came to be.
