Regardless of the ethnicity or the culture of the first practitioners, or the millennium when it started, someone somewhere had to go first. I was just wondering how such a practice might get started. To me, it doesn't seem to be an action that would come naturally and readily to mind as something cool to do. Once a culture had some experience with it, they might easily create a rationale to institutionalize the practice. But I can't help but wonder about the guy who went first and how that came to be.
