EDRAM has been around for many years. I benchmarked 486's a long time ago with EDRAM, and saw about a 20% increase in system level performance.

I'm not sure why EDRAM hasn't been more popular, especially considering that the manufacturing costs are no higher than SDRAM. Probably just bad marketing by EMS.

Hmmm... using DDR means higher royalties for Rambus. Also, it looks like this can be used with RDRAM bus...more royalties for Rambus.

Hardly a RAMBUS killer.....More like a Rambus enhancer.
