semiconeng, just want to say that I appreciate your posts here. We had a tandem going for a while in Tenchusatsu and Process Boy, and then PB went and got himself promoted into a job in which he felt he'd best stop going public here. How will AMD's response (no doubt due out soon) fair? For now, the 1.13GHz is the fastest CPU in town. Or is it? First of all, quantities will be low and locating one could be harder than a pair of black and gold Vivian Westwood trousers. Second, at around $900, it's not exactly cheap, now is it? And if you've got your mind set on one, then expect to pay in the high $3,000 range for a full system (finding one on sale by itself will probably mean waiting until Q3). We'd have liked/expected a little more from the benchmarks. Despite an impressive show in the 3D Winbench Processor and 3D Mark 2000 CPU tests, in some cases, the performance increase over the 1GHz Pentium III falls a good deal short of 10%. No doubt you folks would have liked a little more… Call it what you want- the “post-1GHz unenthusiastic-disorder”, but we're looking for something more exciting than “this week's fastest CPU by a margin of 2-5%. sharkyextreme.com
