Langston Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 769667 Neo, at least things are changing for the better.;) Whereas, more than 1,348 Republicans serve in elected offices in the State of Texas, more than at any other time in history; and Whereas, the Republican Party of Texas recruited a county chairman in all 254 Texas counties, and held a primary in all 254 Texas counties; and Whereas, local government is the most responsive government and Texas Republicans now control more county commissioners courts than at any other time since Reconstruction; and Whereas, Republicans now have a majority in the Texas Senate and sixty-eight Republicans now serve in the Texas House of Representatives; and Whereas, Texas Republicans now have a majority on the Railroad Commission, the State Supreme Court, and the State Board of Education; and Whereas, Texans elected another Republican governor in 1994 by the largest margin of victory in over one hundred years; and Whereas, thirteen Texas Republicans now serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, more than at any other time in history, and two Texas Republicans elected to full terms now serve in the United States Senate, for the first time since 1875; and Whereas, Texas has not supported a Democrat candidate for U.S. President in two decades; and Whereas, in the 1996 Primaries, Texas Republicans outvoted Texas Democrats for the first time in history, and by about 100,000 votes; now, therefore, be it Resolved, that the Republican Party of Texas thanks the thousands of voters, volunteers, activists, delegates, contributors, candidates, and officeholders who together have made our party the majority party in the State of Texas and have made our winning principles standard in Texas politics; and be it further Resolved, that the Republican Party of Texas commends our State Party Chairman, Susan Weddingon, and Vice-Chairman, David Barton for their outstanding leadership of the Party, and for conducting an exciting and innovative convention to kick off the 1998 campaign to capture an overwhelming Republican majority in Texas state government!
