Beg to differ: there are too many scores to settle before there will be much bipartisanship (of course, there will be minor nods to the idea). I also think it is of capital importance who controls the government. I do think that we will try to draw closer to Canada and Mexico, and that we will extend the customs union, but I do not think we will shift focus much. Europe is still the number one trading area for our country, and more culturally and politically compatible than most of Latin America. Even with the Caspian oil reserves, the Middle East will be a major conduit of petroleum and a problem for us. Besides, our current prime security threat is from Islamic and Arab extremism. Frankly, I am not sure why you think that neglect of Latin America will have serious consequences........
