Gary, re: "low light shots". I have my Coolpix 990 set for center-weighted focus but, in low light, it prefers to lock onto the closest objects ... even when they are to the sides. Perhaps I'll get the problem solved after some experienting. All advice is welcome.

FYI, my Minolta SLR automatically sends out a red/infrared pattern in low light when the shutter is depressed halfway. I've had no problem obtaining quick and accurate focus from across a room that was pitch black. The "grillwork" pattern lights the subject just enough for proper aiming.
